As we've been back home now for over a week, I just thought I'd wrap up this trip with a quick report on the last couple of days.
Piran, Slovenia was a delightful place to unwind for our last couple of days. Our hotel was right in the heart of town on the main square with a view onto the Adriatic Sea. There were numerous restaurants and bars, many of which were along the sea-front, and a maze of little narrow streets that were really fun to wander through. A castle and tower on top of the hill overlooked the town, and the whole central area was completely traffic-free.

The day before our flight home, we made the three-hour drive back towards Marco Polo Airport (near Venice) and stayed in a very convenient Agro-Turismo small guest house so we'd be near the airport for the morning. There we completed the packaging of the bikes, and also the repacking of all the rest of our stuff. I had bought a very, very cheap duffel bag from an import store in Trieste to transport my stuff home in. Frank was managing to get all his belongings in one pannier, which would be his checked luggage.
In spite of all the horror stories of flight delays, airport line-ups and lost luggage lately, our journey home was relatively smooth. Yes, our Venice-Montreal flight was delayed by a couple of hours, which made it very doubtful if we'd make our connecting flight to Calgary. But fortunately that flight was also delayed, and we made it with time to spare.

Our luggage all made it home with us as well, including the bikes! We could not figure out why our phones would not work as soon as we took them off airplane mode in Montreal and again in Calgary. So we had trouble contacting our friend to coordinate a possible ride home from the airport. However, all was revealed eventually when we learned about the country-wide Rogers outage that affected thousands of customers. And as it was around midnight by the time we were leaving the airport, we were happy to take a van-taxi home.
Reflecting back on the trip, it was amazing, and we feel really thankful for how well everything went (in spite of the few challenges), especially that we stayed healthy throughout the ten weeks. Some of the earlier parts of the trip already seem like distant memories, but fortunately we have a ton of photos and videos that in time we watch and relive the whole tour. And sometime in the future, there will be more YouTube videos! All in good time.
Thanks to all of you who followed along with us on the blog! We love being able to share our adventures and welcome all the comments!
