Reaching Lake Garda

Trento to Lake Garda, Friday the 13th Sept

After a soggy ride on Thursday, we woke up to much better weather on Friday morning in the southern outskirts of Trento. The historical centre needed to be explored before we set off in a southerly direction towards Lake Garda. The kind gentleman at the hotel reception was happy to store our parfernalia and arrange a taxi for us back into the Centro to do a little tour.

Historical centre, Trento. Attractive and historical without the crowds
and surrounded by mountains. Loved this place

Just your average frescoes adorning this building!

In the crypt of the Duomo (cathedral) we visited the oldest part dating from the late Roman period, including this tile mosaic

Having reached Trento on Thursday, we knew we were within easy striking distance of Lake Garda, which was perfect and right on schedule according to the rather loose plan we had made. But this part was key because Nancy has a special  Via Claudia bus booked for Sunday with pick-up at Torbole (on the Lake) to take her back to Munich for her flight home. And if everything worked out, we'd even have an day to chill in the area on Saturday.

The ride south from Trento was easy and scenic, and with the help of Komoot, the side turnoff up a different valley to Lake Garda was easy to navigate, although it did involve a bit of climbing.

Nice easy riding down from Trento along the Adige River

I was excited as we approached Lake Garda and I knew from having watched videos of this ride that at some point we would crest a hill and turn a corner and there would be the lake below us in all its glory. And sure enough, that's what happened. Nancy was in front and saw the vista first  and all I heard was a mouthful of superlatives as indeed the sight was spectacular!

The photo doesn't quite capture the impact of this view in reality

Awaiting our celebratory drinks at the hilltop lounge.
Our hotel is down the hill 😁

Nancy just about at the end of her ride. Reaching this spot was a highlight for sure,
 for all three of us

Dinner and grappa toast to celebrate today's acheivement!
