Munich to Venice - The missing bits!

Sterzing Vipiteno to Dobbiacio  - Days 6-9

September 8th - 11th

There were a few days in the middle of the Munich to Venice section that I didn't get a chance to report on. So I'm just going to share some photos from those few days, as there were some beautiful bits.

Overview of the Munich Venice cycle route, and the pink highlighted bit is the part I'm reporting on here (all in Italy)

Just another view from the Komoot app
we used to plan and navigate the route.
The pink highlighted portion is from Stirzing to Dobbaccio

The pretty old town in Sterzing Vipiteno where we spent the night in a very comfy apartment

The cathedral in Brixen/Bressanone
(towns have both German and Italian names here)

A fine selection of grappas in Brixen

This carving in Brixen caught my eye.

The tent area in Varna campground, near the city of Brixen. We spent two nights here and did a day ride into nearby Brixen, which was slightly off the route. And we did have some rain here, although a lot of it came at night.

Rode right by this fortress called Muhlbacher Klause in the pretty Puster Valley

We had a lovely unexpected stay in (the room with the balcony)  this guesthouse near Bruneck on Sep 10th when very heavy rain thwarted our efforts to camp

A very nice coffee and strudel enjoyed somwhere along the way

Once we reached Dobbaccio, in the Dolomites,we took a shuttle bus to see Lago di Braies. It's a very popular tourist spot but wasn't too badly crowded when we went in the later afternoon. We hiked the roughly 3km around it's perimeter.

A couple of beverages at the end of the lake walk
