Leaving Amsterdam

Cycle day 1    62.5 km

Yesterday we made our way from central Amsterdam to a little community 14km north of The Hague, where we found a camground right up against the sand dunes.

It was a pleasant day, both weather and scenery-wise. We used navigation on Maps.me to get a route out of Amsterdam to the historic city of Haarlem, then south from there through acres of tulip fields. The peak tulip season is already over, but we still saw some great splashes of colour where flowers were still in bloom.

We can't see the sea from the tent as the sand dunes are high, but we can hear the distant low humming sound of ships heading in and out from the Hook of Holland, not far south of us here. We hope to cycle by there later today.

Excellent cycle paths throughout Amsterdam

Breakfast time after our first night in this new tent! It worked well. And we're loving the addition of chairs to our equipment - so glad we did that as campgrounds in Europe don't have any.
