Nañcy, Frank and I are living it up tonight in a nice pension in a cute Tirolian town called Pfunds. Decided to skip camping as the weather has changed from hot to rainy and cooler. We are down to three of us again- Andrew and Sarah decided they weren't up for the wet weather and headed up the Inn river valley the opposite way to us, heading to Innsbruck to take a train or plane elsewhere!

This afternnon on arrival in Pfunds We climbed 500m today but it was spread nicely over 50 km |
The five of us did get two days of riding together from Fussen to Imst through some great mountain, meadows and farm landscapes, and got ourselves up and over the Fern Pass yesterday. That involved a 500 metre elevation gain over about 5km on gravel, sometimes a bit rough. There were sections I don't mind admitting I go off and pushed the bike. And I wasn't alone.

Near the top of Fern Pass. Lots of other cyclists heading up, most on e-bikes The pass was used by the Romans for their road, hence the big interpretive sign about the Via Claudia Augusta |
The descent was very steep and still on gravel, sometimes rather loose. Good thing everyone's brakes were working well, and we're all experienced mountain bikers. That part was fun.

Campground at the village of Biberwier, just before Fern Pass |

Frank, Nancy and I visited this suspension bridge on Friday, near Reutte. It's called Highline 179 and has a span of 403m, 114m above the ground, giving great views. Ehrenberg Castle ruins in the background |

Just for fun - a hilarious sign posted on the bathroom door in one of our recent campgrounds |

We've seen lots of hay and silage - making along the way |

A nice wall mural on today's route

Now for the fox story.
Sarah and Andrew were shocked when they heard my fox story, and of course we all knew to be careful with our food storage since then. But in our rural campground two nights ago, Andrew was awakened by noises not long after going to bed, and sure enough a fox was dragging away their large white plastic bag of food stored under their vestibule. He had a heck of a time scaring it off - it was extremely aggressive. The food bag was saved, but the beast did help himself to a container of pears left on the table. Poor Ndrew didn't sleep well the rest of the night.

A view of the River Inn which we joined right after Imst. The better know city of Innsbruck is further downstream. That's where Sarah and Andrew headed |
Another Fox wow they frequent the campgrounds. I like the looks of that motorhome in the background as a mode of transport...lol Tracey and Bryan
ReplyDeleteYes like the bears, they know it's an easy source of food!
ReplyDeleteStory after story, it's thrilling to witness the wonderful energy you have and the many adventures you embark on. Each one more fascinating than the last. And those edits of the photos that make us travel with you—thank you. As for poor Sarah and Andrew, I hope they'll sleep better and that their food is kept safe. 😉 Lucie.
ReplyDeleteSay Hi to Nance 😘
