Beautiful Dutch countryside

Sat May 14th
Schoonhoven to Wijk bij Duurstede 55 km

Pretty countryside, lots of farmland  and pretty villages were the order of the day. One thing that surprised is how many thatched roofs we saw. I never knew thatched roofs were a thing outside of Ireland and the UK.

My loaner bike is performing very well. It's actually a very experienced touring bike, about six years old and has travelled extensively in Australia, New Zealand and Canada with its previous Dutch owner.
Schoonhoven

That's Frank getting us some nummy fish in batter in Schoonhoven

One of many thatched homes we saw

Saw a lot of these spotted sheep which I'd never really seen before

Our quiet road with the Rhine on our right

Boomgaard Camground just west of Wijk bij Duurstede - a great spot in the middle of farmland again.

The campground owner was pretty excited to be able to add the first flag from western Canada to his wall map!

Of course most campground visitors are from Europe

The social room at the campground - very modern and immaculate

Our route yesterday, officially Day 4 of riding since Amsterdam

  3. So it started to rain here. I watched the Dutch forecast, it gets cold and there are occasional showers. So hurry to some cozy hotel.
