Fingers crossed for tomorrow
Wed May 11th
It's our 4th day off the bikes here at the Hook of Holland. The bike shop is closed today, the part did not arrive yesterday, so we're very hopeful that it came today and that the bike can be fixed tomorrow.
In the meantime, there's no shortage of things to see and do here. Just watching the ships going up and down the Nieuwe Waterweg (dutch for New Waterway) is fascinating in itself. Where we are is all part of the port of Rotterdam, which is the world's second busiest port after Shanghai.

Our ferry ride through the harbour |
Today we took a ferry with our bikes across to the newly built artificial island called Maasvlatke that was added in 2013 to offer even more docks capable of handling the largest container ships. It gave us a great view of the various ships and docking facilities.

Thursday May 12th 10am update:
I've just been to the bike shop and the part has not arrived! Damn. And so we wait.
So it's still not raining and it's still quite warm. In the cold and rain, waiting in the tent for a spare part would not be pleasant. Brace yourself.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, although lady night it did get extremely windy and wet, tested the tent out. But the sun is shining again today. Could be a lot worse, it's been snowing back home.
DeleteYou are stuck in an interesting place and we are sure you get the best of it! Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThat is so unfortunate for you guys!!! Hopefully u will be on your way soon -not soon enough for you two though. Thinking of you and enjoying your blog. I posted once before but was not sure how to put my name in so it posted as anonymous. Safe cycling once you are back on track ! Will stay
ReplyDeleteIn touch. Enjoy sightseeing in the meantime and biking with one speed!!!
